The AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT features 16GB of GDDR6 memory, delivering enough VRAM to meet the demands of most applications and game requirements. In comparison with the rest of the cards during testing, the RX 6800 XT performed below average across most of the tests. The reference card was initially launched at $649 USD. As of publication date, it is listed as low as $429.99 USD from partner manufacturers across various online retailers.
Please note that Labs tested the AMD reference card, which is not officially available through external retailers such as Newegg or Amazon. However, it is available through partner manufacturers on these external websites.
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
THE GOOD
- Nothing at the time of writing
THE BAD
- DisplayPort
It does not have support for the latest DisplayPort 2.1 version.
- Raytracing
Raytracing performance is really low compared to all of the other cards during testing, but the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 Ti and RTX 3070 are also there with it.
THE REST
- Overall
Overall, our tests revealed that the RX 6800 XT performs below average, comparable to the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 in the majority of these tests. It is a decent mid-range card.
The RX 6800 XT utilizes 7nm technology and is built on the AMD RDNA 2.0 architecture. It supports DirectX 12 Ultimate and incorporates AMD Radeon Super Resolution and AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution 3 (FSR3). The card is based on the Navi 21 graphics processor, which includes 26,800 million transistors within a 520 mm2 die. It features 128 Render Output Units (ROPs), 288 texture mapping units, 4608 shading units, and 72 ray tracing acceleration cores. With a typical board power of 300W, the card tested by Labs is manufactured by AMD and has a two and a half slot, triple fan design that fits in most computer cases. In the Box, it includes the graphics card and a warranty card.

The graphics card supports 4K H264, H265/HEVC, and AV1 decode. It supports a range of AMD features and technologies to enhance overall performance and visual quality.
The RX 6800 XT graphics card performs below average at 1080p and 1440p. In our tests, it ranked toward the bottom of the gaming charts. It did poorly in the productivity tests but did slightly better in the synthetic tests. With driver updates and optimizations, the RX 6800XT could at certain games, outperform the RX 7800XT.
Overall, our tests revealed that the RX 6800 XT performs below average, comparable to the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 in the majority of these tests.
We will periodically retest graphics cards with updated drivers. We continuously monitor and update our results for accuracy. Stay tuned for the latest test results and insights on this product and others as we aim to provide up-to-date information on a consistent basis.
We actively address test bench variance in our evaluation process. Our methodology involved validation and calibration procedures to ensure consistency and reliability across all tests. The verified testbed variance for benchmarks in this product page is +/- 0.25%.
By monitoring and controlling variables such as hardware configurations, ambient temperatures, and system settings, we minimize potential sources of variance that could affect our results. This detailed approach enables us to deliver the most objective and accurate assessments.
