The ASRock AMD Radeon RX 6600 Challenger D, equipped with 8GB of GDDR6 memory, was released as a competitor to the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060, but gaming performance results seem to prove otherwise. In comparison with the rest of the cards during our testing, the RX 6600 performed below average across most of the tests. As of publication date, it is available for as low as $189.99 USD on various online retailers.
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
THE GOOD
- Affordable Price
Available at a low price of $189.99 USD on Newegg, making it a budget-friendly option.
- Energy Efficient
Features a low typical board power of 132W, ensuring energy efficiency.
THE BAD
- Memory
Equipped with only 8GB of memory, which may not be sufficient for high-end gaming and future-proofing.
- Subpar Performance
Delivers below-average performance in most gaming and synthetic tests.
- Ray Tracing
Ray tracing performance is really low compared to all of the other cards during testing, but the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 and RTX 3050 are also there with it.
THE REST
- Overall
Our tests revealed that the RX 6600 Challenger D performed below average across most tests. It is a budget card.
The RX 6600 utilizes 7nm technology and is built on the AMD RDNA 2.0 architecture. It supports DirectX 12 Ultimate and incorporates AMD Radeon Super Resolution and AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution 3 (FSR3). The card is based on the Navi 23 graphics processor, which includes 11,060 million transistors within a 237 mm2 die. It features 64 Render Output Units (ROPs), 112 texture mapping units, 1792 shading units, and 28 ray tracing cores. With a typical board power of 132W, the card tested by Labs is manufactured by ASRock and has a dual-slot, dual fan design that fits in most computer cases. The RX 6600 graphics card delivered below-average performance at both 1080p and 1440p. In our tests, it ranked towards the bottom in overall gaming, ray tracing, and synthetic benchmarks. It performed marginally better than the RTX 3050 in most tests and had a performance level closer to the Intel Arc A580.
We will periodically retest graphics cards with updated drivers. We continuously monitor and update our results for accuracy. Stay tuned for the latest test results and insights on this product and others as we aim to provide up-to-date information on a consistent basis.
We actively address test bench variance in our evaluation process. Our methodology involved validation and calibration procedures to ensure consistency and reliability across all tests. The verified testbed variance for benchmarks in this product page is +/- 0.25%.
By monitoring and controlling variables such as hardware configurations, ambient temperatures, and system settings, we minimize potential sources of variance that could affect our results. This detailed approach enables us to deliver the most objective and accurate assessments.
