The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Ti Founders Edition delivers performance on par with the RTX 3070 across most gaming tests. While it holds its own in 1080p and 1440p gaming, it falls short compared to the RTX 3080, especially at higher resolutions.

Initially priced at $599 USD, it now retails around $800 USD from partner manufacturers. For those seeking a new RTX 3070 Ti, the new 40-series lineup may offer a more competitive price-to-performance. Those who already own it will find it serviceable for now, though it may falter with modern games at higher resolutions due to its 8GB GDDR6 VRAM.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

THE GOOD

  • Performance

Despite the noticeable performance gap compared to the RTX 3080, it still demonstrated good performance for 1080p and 1440p gaming.

THE BAD

  • Memory

Limited to 8GB GDDR6 VRAM and may struggle with higher resolution games.

THE REST

  • Overall

Suitable for current games, but it may encounter some issues with future, more demanding titles.

Hardware
HardwareNotes

The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Ti Founders Edition utilizes 8nm technology and is built on NVIDIA's Ampere architecture. The card is based on the GA104 graphics processor, which has 17,400 million transistors within a 392 mm² die. It features 96 Render Output Units (ROPs), 192 texture mapping units, 6144 shading units, and 48 ray tracing cores. With a typical board power of 290W, the card tested by Labs is manufactured by NVIDIA, and has a dual-slot, dual-fan design that fits in most computer cases. It has the standard RTX 30-sreis, 3 x DisplayPort v1.4 output, and 1 x HDMI v2.1 ports.

PerformanceNotes

The RTX 3070 Ti performs in line with expectations for its place in the 30-series lineup, sitting between the RTX 3070 and RTX 3080. However, the 22FPS drop in average FPS at 1440p compared to the RTX 3080 is substantial, especially when considering the smaller 8FPS gap between the RTX 3070 Ti and RTX 3070. This makes the RTX 3070 Ti a capable but somewhat underwhelming choice.

Test ConfigurationNotes

We will periodically retest graphics cards with updated drivers. We continuously monitor and update our results for accuracy. Stay tuned for the latest test results and insights on this product and others as we aim to provide up-to-date information on a consistent basis.

We actively address test bench variance in our evaluation process. Our methodology involved validation and calibration procedures to ensure consistency and reliability across all tests. The verified testbed variance for benchmarks in this product page is +/- 0.25%.

By monitoring and controlling variables such as hardware configurations, ambient temperatures, and system settings, we minimize potential sources of variance that could affect our results. This detailed approach enables us to deliver the most objective and accurate assessment.
