The EVGA X17 is a wired gaming mouse that caters to right-handed users, featuring an extra sniper button to drop to the lowest DPI for enhanced precision. Launched in early 2021, it offers a customizable weight system, allowing users to adjust the mouse's heft to their liking.
Built with a sturdy frame, the X17 adopts a "gamer" aesthetic, which might not blend well in more subtle or office setups. Weighing at a minimum weight of 103 g, it's heavier than most wired gaming mice, and users can add even more weight with the included adjustment system.
Priced at $49.99 USD MSRP on the EVGA website, the X17 often retails for less through various online stores. It also features three-zone RGB lighting and is available in two color options: Gray and Black.
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
THE GOOD
- Polling Rate
The EVGA X17 stands out with its high 8000 Hz polling rate, which delivers as advertised.
- Price
At $50 USD, it offers solid build quality and dependable sensors, making it a budget-friendly option.
THE BAD
- Weight
The mouse is quite heavy out of the box, and can be further weighted down with additional weights. This might appeal to users who prefer a heavier mouse, but may not suit those looking for a lightweight option.
THE REST
- Overall
The EVGA X17 is a decent gaming mouse, but it doesn’t excel across the board. Its affordable price helps offset some of its design and performance limitations, making it a viable choice for budget-conscious gamers.
The EVGA X17 package includes the mouse, five removable weights, and user documentation. Its 2.1 m braided cable, while stiff, is lightweight enough to not interfere with gameplay. This design aims to balance durability and ease of movement, although it might still be restrictive for some users.

The X17 is compatible with EVGA's UNLEASE RGB software, which is available exclusively for Windows. Through the software, users can adjust settings for RGB lighting, polling rate, debounce time, DPI, and lift-off distance, allowing for a personalized gaming experience.
The X17 uses a PixArt PMW3389 Optical sensor with a DPI range from 50 to 16,000. It also includes two lift-off distance detection sensors to maintain tracking when the mouse is lifted off a surface. The mouse offers 10 programmable buttons, including a profile cycle button for switching between five onboard profiles, a DPI cycle button, and the dedicated sniper button for precision control.
During testing, the X17 showed good low latency, with its wired connection, which measured at an average of 6 ms. It reached its advertised 8000 Hz polling rate, which can be adjusted using the software.
Ergonomically designed for right-handed users, the X17 has its programmable buttons positioned on the left side. It features flared bottoms and indented sides for enhanced thumb and pinky support, though it lacks dedicated rests. The design is better suited for users with small-to-medium hands.
The mouse has four PTFE feet, offering a glide that is adequate - neither exceptionally smooth nor particularly scratchy - allowing for consistent performance across different surfaces.
