The HyperX Alloy Origins is a sturdy wired keyboard featuring HyperX mechanical switches with exposed LEDs. The Alloy Origins is available in four sizes, full size, tenkeyless, 65% and 60%. Labs tested the full-size model.

Being priced at $110 USD on the Hyper-X webstore, it is above entry-level pricing, but below premium pricing. This is a simple, midrange mechanical keyboard for the no-nonsense user.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

THE GOOD

  • Chassis Material

It's very sturdy, it has an all aluminum chassis and base plate construction.

  • Cables

The Type-A to Type-C USB cable is detachable, but the keyboard cannot be used wirelessly. You can replace this cable for a custom one if you prefer.

THE BAD

  • Keycaps

Unfortunately it comes with ABS keycaps, so with prolonged usage there may be keycap shine.

THE REST

  • Overall

It is a bit pricey for a non-hot-swappable keyboard, but it is no nonsense if you just want a simple mechanical keyboard with some choice options.
