Nvidia unveiled its latest trio of gaming GPUs, heralding enhanced performance and generative AI capabilities. The GeForce RTX 40 SUPER Series, consisting of the RTX 4070 SUPER, RTX 4070 Ti SUPER, and RTX 4080 SUPER, promises superior speeds compared to their predecessors, bolstered by RTX platform advancements catering to gaming, applications, and AI tasks [1].
In Nvidia's official statement, the RTX 4070 SUPER is announced as ideal for gaming at maximum settings in 1440p, the RTX 4070 Ti SUPER is the perfect match for high-refresh 1440p panels, and the RTX 4080 SUPER is the go-to option for fully ray-traced 4K gaming and demanding Generative AI applications.
The SUPER Trio
While the RTX 4070 SUPER maintains its architectural foundation, notable improvements include an increased core count, now boasting 7168 CUDA cores (up from 5888 in the 4070), 80 Render Output Units (ROPs), 224 texture mapping units, and 56 ray-tracing acceleration cores. Its Thermal Design Power (TDP) stands at 220W.
For the RTX 4070 Ti SUPER, advancements encompass an elevated CUDA core count from 7680 to 8448 and a memory bus expansion from 192-bit to 256-bit. Featuring 112 ROPs, 264 texture mapping units, 66 ray-tracing acceleration cores, and 264 tensor cores, it maintains a TDP of 285W.
The RTX 4080 SUPER saw an uptick in CUDA cores from 9728 to 10240, coupled with improved tensor and shader core performance at 836 AI TOPS and 52 TFLOPS, respectively. Boasting 112 ROPs, 80 ray-tracing acceleration cores, and an unaltered TDP of 320W, it signifies a formidable addition to the series.
Our performance evaluations encompass Productivity/Synthetic Benchmarks, Power and Thermal Stress Testing Benchmarks, and Gaming Benchmarks. Comparative analyses against predecessors and select AMD Radeon RX cards are featured in a video available on our main channel and through the individual product pages.
Despite the modest performance enhancements, the new lower MSRP pricing maintains a commendable frames-per-dollar value. The drivers accompanying the 40-SUPER series introduce RTX Video HDR, powered by AI technology, accessible through the Nvidia Control Panel. Notable gains in RT TFLOPS are evident when pitted against Radeon RX competitors, showcasing the prowess of increased CUDA cores and RT TFLOPS in 1440p and 4K capabilities.

Our Testing Results
In our testing, the 4K performance for DOTA 2 demonstrated significant improvements over predecessors and RX 7900 XT, RX 7800XT, and RX 7700XT. However, in Cyberpunk 2077, the 4K tests exhibited marginal gains, with the RTX 4080 non-super even outperforming the RTX 4080 SUPER. Notable differences were discernible in 1440p Ray Tracing Ultra preset tests for Cyberpunk 2077, where RTX cards surpassed RX counterparts. Overall
The most substantial advancements were observed between the RTX 4070 SUPER and RTX 4070 Ti SUPER, with single-digit percentage changes from the RTX 4080 SUPER. While all models deliver enhanced performance from their predecessors, the concurrent decrease in competitor pricing should be highly considered if Ray Tracing and AI capabilities are not of high importance.
In conclusion, the RTX 40-SUPER series excelled in gaming, application, and ray tracing performance warranting our recommendation for gaming and AI tasks. For detailed testing processes and results, refer to the individual product pages for the RTX 4070 SUPER, RTX 4070 Ti SUPER, and RTX 4080 SUPER.
